2026 Workshops
Middle schoolers (grades 5-8) will choose from a variety of interactive workshops designed to inspire curiosity and introduce them to real-world career possibilities in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
🍦 Freeze It! Ice Cream Lab
Ever wondered how ice cream can go from liquid to frozen in seconds? Use liquid nitrogen to make your own ice cream while exploring the science of temperature, phase changes and heat transfer. You’ll see chemistry and physics in action—and, of course, get to taste your experiment!
❤️ Heart Beat: Read Your Rhythm
What’s really happening every time your heart beats? Learn how the heart uses electrical signals to keep blood pumping, then record your own EKG and see your heart’s rhythm on a monitor. Explore the technology doctors, nurses and technicians use to understand how the heart is working.
🧬 DNA Extraction: Make Your Own Necklace
You know DNA makes you unique—but have you ever actually seen it? Extract DNA from a sample, learn how this amazing molecule stores the instructions for life, and turn your science discovery into a DNA necklace you can take home.

🦴 Inside Out: Discovering the Body with X-Rays
Think you have X-ray vision? Get a closer look at how X-ray technology allows doctors and scientists to see what’s happening beneath the surface of the human body. Explore images of bones and body structures while discovering how science, technology and healthcare come together to help diagnose injuries and illness.
🏝️ Island Survival: The Clean Water Quest
You’re stranded on an island and there’s a problem: the water isn’t safe to drink! Put your engineering skills to work to figure out how to collect, clean and filter water. Experiment with different solutions, make decisions with your team and discover how engineers tackle real-world water challenges.

💧 Dirty to Drinkable: Build a Water Filter
Can you turn dirty water into cleaner water using materials you can find around you? Design and build your own filtration system, test how well it works and make improvements along the way. Explore engineering design, water quality and the science behind the systems that help provide clean water around the world.
🍓 DNA Detective: Crack the Strawberry Code
Grab a strawberry and become a DNA detective! Use simple chemistry and laboratory techniques to break open strawberry cells and extract their DNA. Discover where DNA is found, how it carries genetic information and how scientists can isolate and study this incredible molecule.

🚀 Straw Rocket Launch: 3…2…1…Blast Off!
Ready for launch? Design and build a straw rocket, then test how far and how fast you can make it fly. Experiment with forces, motion, aerodynamics and design as you make adjustments and see what makes a rocket soar. It’s engineering, physics and a little friendly competition!
🎮 Game On! Build Your Own Game with Code
Ever wondered how your favorite video games actually work? Step into the role of a game designer and use computer code to create your own game. Learn how programmers use logic, sequences, commands and problem-solving to make characters move, challenges happen and games come to life.
🎧 Beat Lab: Create Music with a Computer
What happens when creativity meets technology? Use a computer to experiment with beats, sounds and digital tools to create your own music. Discover how computer technology can be used to produce and manipulate sound while exploring the connection between coding, technology and creativity.
